A Somanya High Court in the Yilo Krobo Municipality of Eastern Region has demolished temporarily and perminant structures situated on the court land.
The move is to pave way for the commencement of the court to operate from its newly build structure at Somanya.
Speaking to Otixpres.com, Mr Tetteh Eric, the Municipal Chief Executive for Yilo Krobo noted that, verbal and official notice were sent to occupants on the land to vacate the place but they fails to heed to the directives.
The notice he said was given from February 2020 to August 2021.
According to him, series of meeting were held to create awareness for the traders that the court will soon start operating from the new office hence the need to end their activities there.
“Somewhere early this year we wanted to start the demolishing exercise so I went to this traders one by one to inform them to relocate their structures but some told me it were going to be costly relocating such structures.
“So now that the court is about to start its operation, there was no way they can be there to share the premises with the court” the MCE explained.
He disclosed that numbering sixteen temporal and two permanent structures who acquired permit to operate on the high court land have been asked to carry their activities until the court formally moves to the area.
On their parts, some affected traders expressed worry about the development and admitted being served the notice to vacate the place.
They added to have been on search for a new place to relocate before what they classified as unfortunate and disturbed happens.
A trader disclosed that, the assembly had earlier requested their permits and assured relocating them to a new place but proved otherwise.
The affected shops include, hairdressing salons, chop bars, barbering salons, provision stores among others.
The traders are therefore appealing to the municipal assembly to help them relocate because it is beyond their reach.
