Soldiers arrest ‘galamseyers’ in Obuasi; force them to sleep in muddy water [watch video]

A video sighted by MyNewsGh.com  purporting to be taken by a team of military officers fighting illegal mining popularly known as galamsey in Obuasi of the Ashanti Region

In the said video, a group of young men were made to lie in dirty, muddy water as the military brandished weapons.

It is unclear what the operation is and who authorized this but sources revealed that it occurred on Friday, July 15, 2022, at one of the sites belonging to Anglogold Ashanti.

The miners numbering over 30, were reported to have sneaked into the underground pits of the company despite warnings and were said to be mining when the armed security agencies arrested them.

The suspects were laid in the mud as the uniformed soldiers were heard making some disparaging remarks about them while waiting to convey them to the nearest police station.

But there are questions about human rights abuses as foreigners when arrested are not subjected to such treatment.
