POLICE INTIMIDATING GOMOA AWOMBEREW SUGAR CANE FARMERS, RESIDENTS CALL ON AUTHORITIES TO INTERVENE

For a few months now, sugarcane farmers of Gomoa Awomberew has been in a tussle with private investor over the ownership of a vast land which the farmers had already possessed.

The case was later settled by the Omanhen of Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Council Obrenpong Yanful Kranpah which the private investor was asked to provide them with land acquisition documents.

However, the investor was alleged to have ordered his men to clear all the planted sugarcane from the land despite the Omanhene’s ruling.

The farmers clashed with the investor’s men again this week which resulted to police intervention.

The Chief of Gomoa Awomberew Nana Asare Akooko Ababio addressing the media, has accused the police for mishandling their people . So far, 8 people in the community has been arrested and remanded into police custody.

 

They are therefore calling on the government and the IGP to intervene.

 

The Chief of Gomoa Abaasa and Nefahen of Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Council Nana Okodumatta xi also added his voice and appealed to the government to step in if he rely mean for planting for food and jobs because this is what the sugar cane farmers to do to take care of their families.

 

Some of the residents also appealed to the authorities to intervene.
