Onua TV/FM’s morning show host Blessed Godsbrain Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart, has made a shocking revelation that he lied against former president John Mahama while he was in office.
According to the vociferous broadcaster he and some journalists chastised the erstwhile NDC government incessantly and caused Ghanaians to vote against the government in 2016 only to realize later that the allegations about the former president were falsehood.
In a viral video, Captain Smart, a latter day critic of the Akufo-Addo government, revealed that he bandied such stories with with Metro TV broadcaster Paul Adom Otchere and Kwame Sefa Kayi.
“The lies we told against Mahama were so much. We said he owned a hotel in Dubai and lots of gold. You Paul Adom Otchere, you were part. The useless analysis we did in this town were a lot,” Captain Smart stated.
He said Adom Otchere and “those NPP journalists must fast for 21 days and ask for forgiveness from God.”
To him, it was only after Akufo-Addo had assumed power that he realized that what he was asked to say were lies.
Mahama’s Concerns
Last year, Mr Mahama reacted to some of the lies some persons peddled against him through criticisms and described the peddlers as hypocrites since they had decided not to chastise the Akufo-Addo government.
The 2020 flagbearer NDC last year accused Ghanaians of been “hypocritical” in their criticism of the Akufo-Addo government.
In an interview with Techiman-based Akina radio during a thank you tour, Mr Mahama said, “That is what is referred to as hypocrisy by the westerners. Hypocrisy is what is depriving the society of development because people don’t speak the truth anymore…we have to use the same standards for everyone, and that’s one of the problems we have,” he said.
He recounted how the NPP peddled falsehoods against himself and his administration in the build-up to the 2016 general elections.
“You can suppress the truth but it would definitely manifest. They told a lot of lies…They said I own a hotel in Dubai, they showed some pictures, and I challenged them to look out for the hotel and sell so we can support the country with it. Up to now, nothing has come out of it,” Mr Mahama noted.
