The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has elected constituency executives in anticipation of the creation of a new constituency in the Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lipke and Lolobi (SALL) areas that were disenfranchised in the 2020 elections.
It would be recalled that the Electoral Commission (EC) through a release issued on the eve of the 2020 elections caused the exclusion of SALL to vote and elect a member of parliament.
Although voters in the SALL traditional areas were allowed to vote in the Buem constituency for the Presidential elections, they were directed by the EC not to participate in the Parliamentary elections.
This has generated controversy with the people of SALL currently without a representative in parliament.
In announcing its timetable for internal elections, the opposition NDC says it has adopted SALL as a constituency. Rumors had speculated that actor John Dumelo plans to switch from Ayawaso West Wuogon to SALL.
Mr. Dumelo has intensified his philanthropic activities in the area in recent times abandoning the AWWC where he lost by a slim margin in 2020.
Ahead of what is likely to be a showdown, NPP in its just-ended constituency election also conducted an election at SALL and elected the following executives:
Chairman – Daniel Aidoo
1st Vice – Paul Somevi
2nd Vice – Richard Letsor
Secretary – John-Newton Kumi
Dep Secretary – Emmanuel Kakraba
Organiser – Ohms Allotey
Women’s Organiser – Vivian Afrema Kweku
Youth Organiser – Emmanuel Bullah
Treasurer – Frank Alvin Adjavon
Nasara Coordinator- Salifu Bashiru
The opposition NDC is expected to do the same with all stakeholders unsure whether the election will come on before or during the 2024 elections. The NDC is tipped to win the seat should there be a contest at any time.
