A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP- USA), Owusu Afriyie, has asked the party not to convince any candidate to step down or run together for the 2024 election.
According to Owusu Afriyie, the call on the Vice president Dr Bawumia and Alan Kyerematen to run together is against the constitution of the NPP.
“The party’s constitution should be respected by allowing the delegates to make their choice, a person who can unit the party and move Ghana forward”
He said the foundation of how the NPP select it flagbearer has successfully given the former president J.A Kufuor and president Akufo-Addo and that tradition must continue.
The two are expected to contest against each other for the first time in a keen contest. Although this will be the Vice President, Dr. Bawumia’s first attempt, Mr. Kyerematen, the current Trade, and Industry Minister, has contested against Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo thrice before he was elected President in 2016.
“The 2024 election is beyond Bawumia, he hasn’t been on a ballot pepper and hasn’t tested any elections so he has no experience to compare himself to Mahama who has been a president before”
“Allan has huge votes in the regions up north than any of the aspiring candidates. In fact, even ex-President John Mahama who is likely to lead the NDC in the 2024 election will struggle against Alan Kyerematen in all the regions up north of the country, let not do any mistake,” he added.
