Residents of Jumbo in the Nkwanta South Municipal Assembly of the Oti Region have called on the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) to as matter of urgency attend to and mend fallen high tension cables that pose a great danger to them and their neighbouring residents.
The residents confirming the news to Otixpres.com narrated that a roofing sheet of some buildings fell on the cables on NEDCo light poles last two months when there was a heavy downpour coupled with winds.
They furthered that, the community authorities, therefore, contacted NEDCo officials to inform them about the situation for assistance; yet waiting for results.
“We went to the office to inform them and they told us they’ll come and fix it but have not, we again went there and they told us the two damaged poles will be brought from Tamale and it’s two months now, we gave them Gh¢100 to buy airtime in calling those at Tamale to faster the process but up to now no positive results,” they added.
The worry of residents is that the incident scene is a popular route for basic school pupils since there is a nearby school. Also, businesses like Cold stores, salons and others that uses light have closed down their shops, adding that number of thieves have taken advantage of that and stealing of their properties.
Hon.Gyato Robert a.k.a Lawyer, an assembly member of the area speaking to Oti-Xpres said, all efforts to get NEDCo to address the issue had proven futile.
He said, “I called them to come and address the situation because people’s lives were at risk. When they came, they only cute the power and they left.
He added that, the incharged after meeting him at his office gave fake loving promises as the situation remains unsolved.
The situation had still not been resolved at the time of filing this report.
