The Nkwanta south Municipal Assembly in Oti Region led by the MCE, Hon Bright Kwame Lenwah in collaboration with his team from the Municipal (Coordinating Director, the Development Planning Officer, his Deputy and the head of works department) on 21st February 2022 paid a working visit to the market to acquaint himself with some challenges facing the market.
The team visited the Keri station, the yam market and then moved into the main market. Lastly, MCE visited the Kpassa station to see if those selling on the pavements adhere to directions that they should vacate the place to create way for pedestrians.
The MCE identified inadequate waste bins used by the zoom lion as problem which is stationed at the yam market.
The MCE and his entourage to sections the market such that the market shall have an entry and exit gates with well security in place.
Addressing some traders and leaders during the tour, Nana Appiah expressed his happiness seeing the MCE in the area. He reported on motorcycles causing damages to some structures in the market.
The MCE also admonished the traders to always keep the market clean after observing how some parts of the market were used for waste products disposal.
He also bemoaned bad security and disrespect on the part of some traders and motor riders leading to undue traffic at the market.
“There are reports of persons involved in accidents in the market due to the construction of opened gutters in the market on a daily basis, said traders.
After the tour, Mr Lenwah promised to expedite action on processes to curb some disturbances at the market as soon as possible.
He also promised to boost security service in the market just as the government of Ghana and NPP led administration is focusing on ensuring full security in the country.
