Director of Protocol for the governing National Patriotic Party (NPP) Kwadwo Afari has emphatically said that the late Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s overthrow some 57 years ago was necessary.
This comes to the fore after he was asked about his recent article published on the theme ‘Was Nkrumah’s overthrow necessary?’
According to him, Nkrumah during his term as a leader should not have declared the country a one-party state.
He also added that Dr Nkrumah also contributed to the collapse of Ghana’s economy.
He spoke during the Danquah Institute (DI) Dialogue Series on the theme: ‘Reflecting on 24th February and the Post-Independent Democracy of Ghana’.
The Managing Editor of the New Crusading Guide, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, and a silent member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) who happened to be at the event also stated that Ghana’s economy was never audited for two years during Nkrumah’s era and some individuals planned to overthrow Nkrumah’s government a year after independence.
Dr Alidu Seidu, a political science lecturer at the University of Ghana also said despite the downs and falls, Nkrumah implemented a lot of domestic projects which the current generation is enjoying today.
According to him, Nkrumah had vision and was very conscious of his decisions
