NDC Primaries: Suhuyini, Murtala and one other go unopposed as contenders chicken out

Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale North Constituency, Alhaji Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini is one of three incumbent lawmakers who will be running unopposed at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries.

The other two from the Northern Region are Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale Central Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed and Daniel Nsala Wakpal of Kpandai after their contenders chickened out at the close of filing nominations.

The NDC closed the picking and filing of nomination forms at 5pm on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 to pave way for the vetting of prospective candidates.

A total of Seventy-Two(72) candidates had picked nomination forms to contest in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries in all 18 constituencies in the Northern Region.

Nanton and the Sagnarigu Constituencies have the highest number of nomination forms picked as at Thursday March 2, 2023.

Northern Regional Secretary of the NDC, Mohammed Abdul Salam in an earlier exclusive interview with MyNewsGh.com, revealed that it was possible more applicants could show up as the closing date inches closer but that never happened.

According to him, nominations were supposed to close between 22nd and 23rd March 2023 but were quick to add that Nanton and Sagnarigu which leads in the number of applicants each had 7 persons.

“Seventy-Two(72) candidates had so far picked nomination forms. They’ve only picked up forms, so one cannot be conclusive on unopposed candidates until nominations close. People may pick up forms and fail to pay up filing fees. Only then can we be conclusive on the details of unopposed constituencies comprehensively. So far Sagnarigu and Nanton has the highest number of candidates with 7 each”, he revealed.
