Student’s of St. Joseph’s Technical School in Saboba of the Northern Region are calling on the Government and well meaning Ghanaian’s to build more classrooms and dormitories for them.

Speaking with Kingsley Sachapou, Northern Regional Correspondent, the students Express their worries that, some of the schools facilities such as I.C.T laboratories, practical rooms among others are now converted into classrooms and dormitories. They added that, the schools dinning hall is now used as a classroom and when is time for meal and classes is still on going in the dinning hall, they have to stand outside until that lesson is over which is hindering their academics. “Now that the first year’s are in school, they have to be outside for classes and when they manage to finish their daily routines, where to sleep becomes their question of the night, the only option is to sleep outside which is very dangerous in the aspect of the girls, they may be raped by bad boys in the school or town since the school is not fenced” they indicated.

Mr. Johnbossco Nyamador, the Senior Housemaster in charge of Administration added that the classrooms and dormitories are not enough to contain the entire school population which is making things difficult in the school.

“There is a GETFUND project which started very smoothly in 2010 which was coming to reduce the accommodation issues of the school and as I speak now, it’s been 12years now, the project has still not been completed” Mr. Johnbosco included.

Mr.Jawol Nicholas, the Senior Housemaster in charge of Academics, furthered explain this situation as worrisome which should be treated urgently because it is raining off the academic performance of the students.

The Vice principal, Mr. Kuudaar Paschal Konne included that, due to this terrible situation, the P.T.A intervened by putting up a pavilion to reduce the situation.

Mr. Takai Mahama the PTA chairman noted that the situation is disturbing enough and that is why they came up with this pavilion and if you look the school’s population, this alone cannot be enough and so for that reason, they are appealing to the government and non-governmental bodies to intervene. St. Joseph’s Technical School is a technical school established in May 1967 by the Catholic Mission by the first principal Rev. Joseph Connolly, since then this school has become the best technical school for many students in this country.
