Last Friday, April 28, 2023, was commemorated as the One-Week Celebration of the death of Member of Parliament (MP) for Kumawu, Philip Atta Basoah.
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was at the event to commiserate with the Chiefs and people of the area as well as members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
On the sidelines of the event was a scheduled meeting between the party’s parliamentary candidate and the second gentleman of the land which has left many tongues wagging.
At the residence, Dr. Nana Ayew Afriye in Effiduase, the Parliamentary Candidate-elect for Kumawu Constituency, Dr Ernest Yaw Anim paid a courtesy call on the Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to officially introduce himself as the new PC-elect for Kumawu Constituency.
Dr Ernest Yaw Anim together with his Party chairman and other executives pledged their support and cooperation to Dr Bawumia in breaking the 8.
He thanked the team for their support and positive direction during his primaries which he eventually became the winner.
Present at the residence was Majority leader Hon Kyei Mensah Bonsu, Roads Minister, Ashanti Regional Minister, Chief of Staff, Chairman Wontumi and Majority of the MPs in parliament including Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo, Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya.
Ernest Yaw Anim emerged as the Parliamentary candidate for the New Patriotic Party(NPP) in the upcoming by-election in the Kumawu Constituency.
He polled 195 votes as against his closest rival and only female in the five-man race, Obaapa Ama Serwa who polled 181 votes.
Dr Aboagye Dacosta had 27 votes, Kwame Appiah Kubi polled 10 votes while Osei-Hweree Kwame Bempah, could only managed five votes.
The Electoral Commission has slated 2nd May 2023 to 5th May 2023 between the hours of 9 am to 12 pm and 2 pm to 5 pm on each day to receive nominations of the candidates at the Kumawu District Office of the Commission.
