Johnnie’s Bite: Why is President Akufo-Addo reluctant to respond to Al Jazeera?

Radio personality and the host of “Johnnie’s Bite,” Johnnie Hughes has questioned the deafening silence of President Nana Akufo-Addo in relation to the recent investigative report by Al Jazeera on the gold mafia in Ghana.

The report which has caused a stir in Ghanaian political and public discourse was the subject of a segment on 3FM’s Sunrise show, “Johnnie’s Bite.”

‘Johnnie’s Bite’ has taken a keen interest in the gold mafia documentary released by Al Jazeera with its investigative team on the segment probing further into rising matters concerning Al Jazeera’s report.

During the show, Hughes questioned the reluctance of President Akufo-Addo to respond to Al Jazeera’s report.

It was gathered that the Presidency had earlier written to the news firm requesting an apology for including the President’s name in the documentary.

However, Al Jazeera has refused to retract or apologize for the report.

In response to an email inquiry by the Johnnie’s Bite investigative team, Al Jazeera stated that they have corrected and clarified portions of the letter they wrote in response to the Presidency’s request for an apology.

The Johnnie’s Bite investigative team received a response from Al Jazeera regarding an email sent to them regarding a letter cited on April 25th, 2023, through President Akufo-Addo’s secretary, Mr. Nana Bediatuo Asante.

The Presidency had earlier written to Al Jazeera, requesting that the news firm write an apology for including President Akufo-Addo’s name in the gold mafia documentary.

Johnnie Hughes, who could not understand why the Presidency was feeling reluctant to announce Al Jazeera’s response, said, “On social media, they are saying that if it had been a Ghanaian media, they would have caved in because one manager would have called the other and withdrawn the case.”

Narrating Al Jazeera’s response, Johnnie said, “Obroni says I won’t retract, and I won’t apologize. And in that letter, the presence of a certain tweet by one of the President’s lawyers found presence(spurious) in it.”

“Al Jazeera says they have written back to the Presidency to suggest to them that they have actually paid attention to everything. They have corrected and clarified portions of the letter they wrote,” Johnnie announced.

Other media houses tried their possible best to claim that they were the first to probe further from Al Jazeera, but Johnnie has told them what should have been done instead.

“When we saw the response yesterday, we put it out there, and other media houses were claiming to have written to Al Jazeera, but the focus shouldn’t be on who wrote first. The focus should be on demanding from the government the real answers before the issue gets flushed down the drain,” he hammered.

In response to Johnnie’s Bite investigative team, Al Jazeera said they have written and responded to the President, correcting parts of the content and clarifying points raised in the President’s letter.

Ghanaians are itching to hear a response from the Presidency after Al Jazeera refused to offer an apology.

The big questions everybody is asking:

Why is President Akufo-Addo reluctant to respond to Al Jazeera?

Where are all the people fighting back for the President before Al Jazeera’s response?
