I recommended someone not myself to be Bawumia’s running mate for 2024 – Kyei Mensah-Bonsu

Member of Parliament for the Suame Constituency Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has said that he has recommended someone to the Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to be considered as his Running mate in the 2024 elections.

He says the person is aware of the recommendation.

“In the Ashanti Region, I spoke to someone who I’ve also discussed with the Vice President to consider him as the Running mate for the 2024 election. It wasn’t me, the person knows himself. People say I qualify so I shouldn’t say that but I can’t spit on the ground and pick it back. I thank God people think I qualify,” he said.

Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu indicated, however, that the position of the running mate is the preserve of the flagbearer and therefore behoves the flagbearer to make his/her choice.

The Majority Leader in Parliament made instances where past flagbearers of the political party made their choices of running mates which gave the party victory and there asked that party members should stop suggesting running mates for people have put themselves in pole position to be voted for as flagbearers.

He indicated that people can only suggest and recommend Running mate but it should not be the case that someone is forced on the flagbearer else it won’t be in the right place
