Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh has taken a swipe at the General Secretary of the NDC, Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey over his tribal comment.

While Speaking at a regional retreat organised for Regional Executives of the Party at Dzodze in the Ketu North Municipality of the Volta Region themed “Empowering Our Base for Victory in 2024,” Mr Kwetey reportedly said no sensible Voltarian will vote against the NDC.

He is reported my ModernGhana News to have said the region must adore the opposition party and see it as their religion.

“Volta is the region, where saviours of the nation come from as far as this country is concerned but we need to know who we are, and somehow, we know, who we are, and we need to start appreciating who we are.

“Volta must appreciate NDC and back it no matter what. It should become like a religion. We need to let our people appreciate that this is what we are. And believe if we knew who we were, the situation where the love for this party would start dwindling in this Region should not happen,” he said.

The opposition party’s chief scribe called on his members to help fix the issues within the corridors of the party to help it win power in 2024.

“Your Religion may not be the best, yet that is your religion. It is your responsibility to make sure you fix it, and you change it.

“We need to let our people appreciate that this is who we are. There is nothing shameful about it. You talk to some of our young people from Volta and they think it is something of pride to say ‘yea, we are not like our forefathers and uncles, and we believe that we should not continue with that,” he noted.

Reacting particularly on the part where Mr. Kwetey allegedly said any sensible person in the Volta region will not vote against the NDC, the Nsawam Adoagyiri legislator described it as “repugnant and ugliest.”

According to him, Mr. Kwetey shouldn’t have stooped so low as to take the country’s beautiful ethnic and religious for granted.

In a post on his Twitter page, Mr. Annoh-Dompreh told him to “reverse the dangerous lane he is charting.”

“My friend Fifi Fiavi Kwetey descended to this lowest ebb? We cannot take the beautiful Ethnic & Religious tolerance in this country for granted.

“This is repugnant and ugliest. I am shocked and disappointed. You are charting into a dangerous lane, reverse forthwith,” he stated.

According to him, he “spent a significant part of my formative years in the Volta Region: Bishop Herman College at School in Ho the Regional Capital, growing up as a boy. The General Secretary of the NDC just misfired with his call on voltarians. Fifi Kwetey must grow up and put an end to this!”
