A suspected thief has been beaten to death by an irate mob in Nkwanta South of the Oti Region. The deceased, whose identity according to eyewitnesses, ‘Kiss boy’ is said to have stormed an area on a robbery expedition.
Unfortunately for him, some people in the populated area spotted him during his striking.
He was reportedly hit with stones, sticks and metals until he eventually gave up the ghost.
An eyewitnesses disclosed that the incident happened midnight of Wednesday, July 2022.
According to them, the ‘thief’ had stormed the area ostensibly to break into people’s homes and rob them.
The case was later reported to the police, who are yet to medically confirm his death and deposit the body in a morgue. No arrest has been made yet.
Rubbery in the Nkwanta South and North of late is alarming. Some residents says the police are not given the needed attention when such issues are reported, hence will take the law into their own hands.
The lynching of suspected thieves has been a common practice in Ghana for decades.
In most instances, the suspects are not arrested for taking the law into their own hands regardless of whether the suspected thief is guilty or not.
Meanwhile, the Nkwanta Divisional Police is yet to conduct their investigations on the incident.
