Acre’s of cashew farm set ablaze in Oti Region.

The largest cashew plantation at Kparekpare in the Krachi East Municipality of the Oti Regional has been burnt to ashes by unknown source.

The farm which covers more than 120 acres, according to Mr Jordan Sheriff Owusu, the Chief Executive Officer of De Jordans Agro and Investment was set ablaze on Sunday, 30th January 2022.

 

In an interview with Oti base Beyond FM, Mr Owusu noted that all the safety precautions as long as the wheather is concerned by creating fire belt along the edges of the farm have been provided, therefore couldn’t understand how the incident happened.

 

He suspected the incident to be intentionally created by some unknown people.

“I suspect someone intentionally set the farm ablaze because they don’t believe in plantation and see it as threat” he lamented.

Estimating the cost invested, the Chief Executive Officer said he had lost over Ghc400,000 therefore calling on the Ministry of agriculture to come to his aid.

Meanwhile the interview was joined by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to throw more light on how residents in the region and beyond will manage fire in their homes and other part of the community.
